July 4th – Tour de Flag

I hope everyone had a great day celebrating Independence Day!  What a great day it was as it turned a Wednesday into a Saturday – or at least that’s what it felt like.  Now that’s a holiday!

Samantha and I decided to get the day started right by setting off on the inaugural Tour de Flag ride which took us up into the hills of San Juan Capistrano to visit the flagpole up there.  Using some trails linking San Juan Cap & San Clemente, we made our way over to our favorite singletracks in San Clemente and then out to San Mateo campground and Trestles.  We cruised back via PCH but had quite a surprise when we literally rolled into San Clemente’s Downhill Office Chair Race – yes, it is just what it reads like!  (Strava link & stats of ride)

In the spirit of the day, throughout the journey we stopped to take pictures of American flags.  I’m not overly patriotic, but on days like the 4th, it is rad to see everyone enjoying themselves and paying tribute to this wonderful country we’re fortunate to call home.  Enjoy the flags . . .
